Have you ever tried it?

Even though I’ve had a meditation practice for over ten years, its consistency waxes and wanes. Which is strange – because I can never figure out why I stop doing the things that make me feel so good.

Sound familiar?

I knew going to Finland to write True North would throw me completely outside of my comfort zone. Travelling alone, to the other side of the planet to write an entire meditones album in one month? Yup. Comfort zone busted.

I also knew I would have to lean heavily on my meditation practice.

And I did.

In Finland – I meditated A LOT.

Every day. Sometimes multiple times a day.

And low and behold, you’ll never guess what happened.

I had waaay less anxiety and waaaay more energy. I stopped biting my fingernails. There were brilliant moments of clarity, feelings of connection, transcendent bliss and inspiring creative flow.

Yes, there were emotional times. Times of self doubt and frustration. But they were fewer and easier to bounce back from each time I practiced meditation.

But all too soon the month was over, and I was back on the road.

During travelling my schedule was a little messier. It was harder to maintain a routine. I still did a lot of meditation, just not daily.

I could definitely feel the difference.

That inner glow that had been illuminating me was starting to dim, ever so slightly.

Even though I knew meditation was good for me, and I wanted to do it, it often felt like there were more important or more fun things to attend to. Itineraries to follow… family to Facetime… friends to Facebook…

But they were just excuses.

Because life is life, no matter where you are. And things didn’t get any less hectic or inconsistent once I stopped travelling.

Now I’ve realised it’s the small acts of healthy habit that set me in flow. So I’ve decided to commit to a daily meditation practice again and I’d love for you join me.

All you have to do is make a promise to meditate every day, and nominate an amount to donate to charity if you break it. And when you do you’ll go into the draw to win one of three copies of True North!

Whaddya say? Are you with me?
